Biz Tech Day (Day 1)

Over the next few posts I will dive into the in’s and out’s for those who could not attend the BizTechDay Conference in San Francisco, CA.  If you are unfamiliar with BizTechDay click here. For the short term, I want to share a quick note on the “take-aways” from day one:

  • Passion- If there was ONE single take away, and if you read no further, understand this point.  A new understanding of “Passion” has emerged.  It can be attributed to the state of the economy, the Redefining of the American Dream (Blog Post Coming Soon!), or the release of books like  “Crush It!” by Gary Vaynerchuk.  The fact of the matter is, to get things done, and I mean REALLY get some serious shit accomplished, it takes an undying, unyielding, unrelenting Passion.  Excuses are gone, life is short, there is zero reason you can’t do something you LOVE to do EVERY SINGLE DAY.  There was not a single talk today where a speaker did not use the word passion in exactly that way.
  • Serial Entrepreneur is the new Entrepreneur- This is something that you could not “take away” by watching any videos, looking at any photos, or reading any articles about the event.  The attendees and (more importantly) the speakers are multi-faceted individuals.  The most common answers to the question “What do you do?” were riddled with the word “AND” the majority of the time.  “I’m an artist and I run blank.com and I freelance” or “I have blank day job and at night I work on blank and I am REALLY interested in blank!”  Gone are the days of “I have been with IBM for 30 years.”  But I digress.
  • Cost and Productivity- Tech is undeniably the best tool to simultaneously boost productivity and reduce cost.  New tools to help maximize our output, minimize our overhead, or keep eyes on employees at the other side of the globe (you very likely have never met, or will never meet) mean we can do much more with much, MUCH less than ever before.

Now to you these points may seem anecdotial, trivial, or simply general.  If this is the case, you are on the right track, your path is taking you the right direction, and you very well may be ahead of the pack.  Look for another post dropping soon to conclude the “take aways” from BizTechDay.  That’s all for now.
